Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: April 2026

This site contains affiliate links. If you click through and sign up for a paid plan with one of the tools we review, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What this means

When you click a "Get started" or "Try free" button on this site and subsequently subscribe to a paid plan, the tool's affiliate programme tracks the referral and pays us a commission. The amount varies by tool and programme. You never pay more because of these links — the price you see is identical whether you arrive via our link or go directly to the tool's website.

Which tools have affiliate programmes

Not all tools on this site have affiliate programmes, and we are transparent about which do and which don't. On every tool review page, we display either an affiliate disclosure or a "No commercial relationship" notice.

At launch, our active affiliate programmes are:

  • Sage — via Impact.com
  • Zoho Books — via Zoho's direct affiliate programme
  • FreshBooks — via Awin

The following tools are featured with no affiliate relationship:

  • FreeAgent — a NatWest Group subsidiary with no affiliate programme. Featured because it is one of the best free options for UK sole traders.
  • QuickFile — a free product with no affiliate programme. Featured because it is genuinely excellent for landlords and budget-conscious sole traders.
  • Xero — PartnerStack application pending at launch. Links are direct (non-affiliate) until approved.
  • QuickBooks — PartnerStack application pending at launch. Links are direct until approved.
  • Untied, Coconut, Crunch — affiliate status unconfirmed at launch. Reviewed on editorial merit.

How commissions affect our recommendations

They don't. Our editorial independence commitment:

Tool rankings and recommendations are based solely on our testing and assessment of each tool's suitability for UK sole traders and landlords. We do not accept payment for favourable placement. If a tool without an affiliate programme is the best recommendation for a given use case, we recommend it. If a tool with a higher commission rate is objectively worse than a cheaper alternative, we say so.

Concretely: FreeAgent and QuickFile are recommended prominently on this site despite having no affiliate programmes, because they are genuinely good options for many users. Zoho Books earns a commission and is also recommended — because at £12/month it is the best value paid route to MTD ITSA compliance, not because of the commission.

HMRC recognition claims

All MTD ITSA recognition status claims on this site are verified against the GOV.UK software finder. We do not rely on software vendors' own marketing claims. Recognition status is shown with a verification date on each tool page.

Compliance

This disclosure is required under the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the ASA/CAP Code. Commercial intent must not be concealed. Affiliate links represent a commercial arrangement — this disclosure ensures you are aware before clicking.
