Untied and MTD ITSA
Untied is one of the few UK software products built from the ground up specifically for self-assessment and MTD ITSA — rather than being a general accounting tool adapted for UK tax compliance. This shows in the user experience: the MTD ITSA quarterly submission flow is the simplest of any tool we have reviewed.

Who Untied is designed for
Untied is designed for the simplest MTD ITSA use case: a UK sole trader with income from one or two sources, who wants to move from spreadsheets to compliant software with minimum friction. The app walks you through categorising income and expenses, and the quarterly submission is handled in a few taps.

Free vs Premium
The free tier covers basic self-assessment filing but not MTD ITSA quarterly updates — you need Premium (£14.99/month) for full MTD compliance. At that price it is competitive with QuickBooks Simple Start (£14/month) and Zoho Books Standard (£12/month), though less feature-rich as a general accounting tool.
If you specifically want the simplest possible MTD ITSA experience and do not need purchase orders, inventory, or payroll, Untied Premium is worth trying.
